NEW YORK -- The first exhibition of works of Baltimore artist Jess Pfohl will be on display at music and event venue Sullivan Hall in New York. The exhibit, POP Rocks!, comprises over 30 paint and paper collage pieces inspired by American painter, printmaker, and filmmaker Andy Warhol and his Factory.
The opening reception for POP Rocks! will take place on Dec. 19 and will include a one-time musical performance by Scott Metzger’s HEROIN. Led by Metzger, a New York-based guitarist (Moby, Warren Haynes, Gov’t Mule, Joss Stone, Steve Winwood, Ween, Mike Gordon, Tom Marshall), the band will apply an improvisational twist to the music of American art rock band The Velvet Underground. Joining Metzger on stage will be Kevin Kendrick (A BIG YES ... and a small no) on vibraphone, guitar and Vox; Jonathan Goldberger (A BIG YES ... and a small no) on bass and guitar; and
Ryan Thornton (Sean Bones, Sam Champion) on drums.
Doors for the reception will open at 11pm with a rare vinyl disc jockey set by Philadelphia drummer Eric Slick (Adrian Belew, Béla Fleck & The Flecktones, Eddie Vedder, Umphrey's McGee, Gregg Rolie of Santana, Billy Idol).
The event will also celebrate the launch of a new website dedicated to the artist’s practice, www.JessMessin.com, installed by Chuck Frye.
